Okay, let's talk about the world of MUTANTS OF BAIN or M.O.B. I've been a fan of science fiction, fantasy and comics most of my life, and yes, I loved X-MEN.
Anyway, I decided to write my own mutant stories along the familiar lines of X-MEN, with human paranoia and persecution, but with the mutants actually fighting to win this time. The Mutants in these stories fall into two categories: Original Strain/Earth Mutants and the Bainian Strain/Bellasarian Mutants. To understand the difference you need to know the history.
The American government set up a facility in one of their territories on the Caribbean Island of Bain for the education and training of young mutants.  Rogue scientist discovered an Earthlike planet in another dimension and developed the means to teleport there. They then, with the aid of renegade military personnel, teleported the entire Island and its native population there where they established themselves as the elite class over the native humans and enslaved the mutants, doing pretty much as they pleased with them, including illegal (on Earth) genetic experimentation and breeding. Then, one day...the island reappeared.
On Earth only about five years had passed when the Island of Bain finally reappeared, but over a hundred and fifty years had passed in the other realm. A desperate group of human scientist had returned Bain to the Earth Realm hoping that the humans there would save them. The mutants had revolted and taken over the island and their former masters (those still alive) were now their slaves. Unfortunately for the humans, both on Bain and elsewhere, these mutants were now a breed apart from their Earthborn kin.
Generations of selective breeding have produced mutants much more intelligent, powerful and ferocious than most of the original stock on Earth. Also, they are and extremely attractive and hormonal people. This is a result of genetic engineering and selective breeding as well, and the reason just as perverse and cruel. But for now the primary differences between the two strains of mutants are these.
Most Earth mutants usually have one genetic gift only. A shapeshifter doesn't have telepathy. A telepath doesn't have super strength and so on. Often one or both of an Earth mutant's parents are human. Earth mutants have seen and experienced both the best and worst side of humans. Mentally, many see themselves as human and may even be ashamed of their mutant abilities and keep them hidden. Physically, Earth Mutants are not as powerful as Bainians. In cases of mutants intermarrying among themselves, yes, multi-gifted and more powerful offspring have been born. But these people are not usually anymore vicious, hormonal or intelligent than the average human or mutant...unless that is their gift.
Bainians/Bellasarians are the product of generations of mutant with mutant breeding. They were slaves. For their own reasons the humans bred mutants scrupulously for particular strengths and purposes, nearly ALL have two or more abilities. Most have some degree of telepathic ability. They are much stronger than their original strain cousins, many of whom are no stronger than humans. Even the weakest Bellasarian female is as strong as a human male in peak condition who trains seriously and regularly. What a Bainian strain mutant considers truly strong far surpasses that of all but the most powerful of Earthborn mutants would see as strong. Temperament-wise, Bellasarians are aggressive, ferocious and have little love for humans. Few if any have had any positive contact with humans, especially the females who rule in Bellasarian society. Bellasarian females are infamously beautiful in face and form, but equally vicious and cunning. With their own men, and even Earth mutant males, they can and ARE very gentle and affectionate...even aggressive in quite another way (another reason why the males don't complain about their rule). However, human males are another story completely. Bellasarian women have been know to kill human men for forgetting themselves and human females for the same offense with their men. Yes, Bellasarian males are just as physically appealing to the opposite sex as the females.
Finally, Bellasarian mutants do NOT consider themselves human. They see themselves as superior and even contemptuously refer to humans as monkeys.
Alright, this pretty much tells you the situation of Mutants of Bain Book I/Mutants of Bain. This is getting long and I don't want to give away anything for those just discovering the books. Besides...I'm looking forward to all questions. So that's all for now and I'll be waiting for the comments.
